Getting started
My child has never held a racquet. Which level, and is 3 too young?
Three is not too young: our classes start from age three. A child who has never played starts in the Beginner group, and no experience is needed. Coaches assess every player and place them on the right level. The level finder above shows the classes with spots.
I am an adult who has never played. Will I be the only beginner?
No. The Adult Beginner group in Oshawa is for people who are new to tennis and want to learn the basics, and no experience is needed. When the Monday adult ranking runs, it is for Beginner and Intermediate players.
Do we need to buy a racquet and balls?
No. We provide racquets and balls, and you are welcome to bring your own racquet. Wear athletic shoes and bring a water bottle.
Is it full? Will we get a spot?
Some times fill up, and places are given on a first-qualified, first-accepted basis. The finder shows the spots left for each time. If a class is full, join the waitlist from the same screen.
What is the starting age for children's classes?
Our classes start from the age of three.
Classes
How big are the classes? Will my child get coached, or stand in line?
Each time slot has a fixed number of spots, and you can see how many are left before you register. Every class is 60 minutes, with 55 minutes of instruction.
Where are lessons in winter, and can I see how my child is doing?
From October to April, classes move indoors: Canada Christian College in Whitby, and the Civic Recreation Complex and South Oshawa Community Centre in Oshawa. Every level ends with a coach assessment and an ICM progress certificate, and weekly ranking standings are posted on our ranking page.
How long is a class?
Each class is one hour.
What are the qualifications of your coaches?
Our director, Mahdi Taheri, holds a PhD in Physical Education, a Club Pro 2 certificate and ITF certification. He has more than twenty years of coaching experience and ten years as a national team player. All our coaches are certified in Canada.
Payments and policies
How much is it per month, all in?
Kids and junior groups are $149 a month right now; the regular price is $188. Adult groups are $188 a month. Add 13% HST. Racquets and balls are provided. Your card is charged on the 20th for the next month.
What if we miss a class? Do we have to commit for three months?
Registration is for at least one season of three months, then it continues month to month. Missed classes are not made up or refunded, because court time is limited. If ICM cancels a class, we schedule a make-up session. To withdraw, email info@icmtennis.com at least 30 days before the end of the month you want to stop.
How does monthly billing work?
Your card is charged on the 20th of each month for the next month's classes.
Programs
What is the High Performance program?
High Performance is for advanced, competitive players training for tournaments and high-level match play. It includes intensive technical and tactical training, fitness and mental development. Entry needs more than 3 years of lessons and approval from our director.
Can my child move up levels over time?
Yes. Many players start at Beginner and, with consistent practice, move on to Intermediate and then High Performance. Coaches follow each player's progress and move them up when they are ready.
Do you offer private or semi-private lessons?
Yes. For private and semi-private lessons, call 647-787-0704 or email info@icmtennis.com.
Do you offer a summer camp?
Yes. Our tennis summer camp runs in half-day and full-day weeks for ages 6 to 16, in Whitby and Oshawa.
